The Wedge/Just So Richard

Just So Richard investigates how a simple wedge form can alter the experience of a place. Developed through installations, drawings, and spatial studies, the project explores relationships between object, architecture, and perception. Repositioned in response to each site, the wedge becomes an act of attention, responding to the conditions of a place rather than imposing itself upon them.

Spatial studies

Before each installation, I developed a series of graph paper studies to explore how the wedge might occupy a particular site. Rather than functioning as blueprints, these drawings became a way of testing relationships between object, architecture, and movement. Working within the constraint of the graph and a limited visual vocabulary, they allowed each installation to emerge through repeated acts of adjustment rather than predetermined design.

Material studies

Running parallel to the sculptural work, these drawings investigate the wedge through repetition and variation. A transferred grid, limited palette, and recurring form establish a set of conditions within which each drawing develops independently. Rather than functioning as preparatory sketches, they explore how a single idea changes as it moves between drawing and object.
